Why create when you can hack?

Why create when you can hack?

Why create a new product when you can hack an existing one to perform the same function at a fraction of the cost? PuckPuck is a product that turns the ever popular Aeropress from being a hot coffee maker to one that can brew slow dripped cold coffee. A method of making coffee that has existed since the 1600’s but has remained abstract and unaccessable due to its high price tag.

From launching on kickstarter the response has been overwhelming and achieving over 300% of the required goal. We have managed the whole of this process from start to finish from prototypes through to packaging and branding.

The success of the product has opened up the debate to product hacking being a viable environmental solution to mass consumerism. Read more here We have tried to carry this ethos through the design of the packaging with no glue being used and clever solutions with minimal waste.

The PuckPuck utilises a standard screw thread found on many water bottles which meant we could reduce the amount of packaging and materials used for those that are happy to use bottles they source to brew with.

We went through a long development phase to ensure we could maintain a consistently behaving product. The process has led us to patent applications in multiple regions around the world to protect the IP.

"Love my Puck Puck"

Paul Bardo, Kickstarter Backer

The name PuckPuck is onomatopoeic and we loved the idea of the identity to reflect what the product does as well. We created an identity that is big, bold and stacks, using repetition to get its point across.
